Assistant Store Manager

Location: Houston, TX | Type: Full-time

As an Assistant Store Manager, you will support daily store operations and deliver outstanding customer service that matches the company’s values and ethics. You will coach team members, manage front-of-house workflows, process financial transactions, and help the Store Manager drive performance, risk management, and regulatory adherence. This role is ideal for service-oriented professionals who want hands-on leadership experience and a clear path to advancement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Educate customers on the products and services we offer.
  • Identify the needs of our clients and present suitable financial services and products that meet them.
  • Answer telephone inquiries and conduct daily call campaigns to offer new services and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Interact with clients and diffuse complaints through active listening and solution-focused communication.
  • Elevate issues to the Store Manager or corporate support when needed.
  • Accurately process applications and transactions (e.g., loan requests, check cashing, ancillary services) within system and policy controls.
  • Perform identity and document verification, validate application data, and assess transaction risk following company guidelines.
  • Maintain precise records in the point-of-sale system and uphold data integrity standards.
  • Manage a cash drawer, count and reconcile funds, prepare deposits, and follow safe/vault procedures.
  • Balance daily receipts against system reports, investigate and resolve over/short variances per policy.
  • Execute opening and closing procedures, maintain store appearance, and ensure equipment readiness.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 1 year of experience in customer service, retail, sales, or cash handling.
  • Leadership or key-holder experience preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, professional phone etiquette.
  • Proficiency with point-of-sale systems, basic spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office.
  • Sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced setting.
  • Valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, and reliable personal transportation for work-related travel, in accordance with company policy.
  • Successful completion of a background check consistent with applicable law.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Work Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Full-time, in-person schedule; weekend and holiday availability may be required.
  • Regular use of computers, POS terminals, phones, and standard office equipment.

  • Day 1 to month 5: Define your mission

    During this period, you will complete introductory training for new employees, job-specific training, and mandatory modules on compliance with regulatory requirements. You will learn the POS system workflows, application verification, customer identity verification (KYC/ID), cash handling and daily reconciliation, and you will also independently perform regular tasks such as making polite calls to customers, sending payment reminders, and compiling basic reports.

  • Months 5-12: Demonstrate your leadership qualities

    Once you learn the basics, we expect you to run opening/closing with minimal oversight and ensure audit readiness and spotless cash controls. You will also analyze simple store metrics to spot trends, reduce losses, and improve service outcomes. As needed, you will serve as acting manager and partner with the Store Manager on corrective actions and performance huddles.

  • Months 12-18: Explore your opportunities for career growth

    At this stage, you will lead full shifts end-to-end, including people, performance, compliance, and risk management. You will also mentor new employees and collaborate with District leadership on small projects, pilots, or cross-store support. We will expect you to demonstrate promotion-ready results across KPIs, team coaching, audit outcomes, and customer experience.
